Usage:
NOTE: Check the condition of all O-ring seals and of all parts. If any components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
1. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to steering cylinder assembly (1), as shown. Put the steering cylinder assembly in position in the rear frame. The weight of the steering cylinder assembly is 90 kg (198 lb).
2. Align the bores of the steering cylinder and the rear frame. Put 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease in the pin bore and install pin (5) and shims (4) (as required).
3. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the outside and inside diameters of all the collets before assembly. Install collet assemblies (3) and (7).
4. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of bolt (6). Install bolt (6) and the washer that holds the collet assemblies to the pin assembly.
NOTE: The collet on one side must not extend farther than the other collet when the bolt is tight.
5. Tighten bolt (6) to a torque of 870 ± 110 N·m (640 ± 80 lb ft). After the bolt is tight, hit the collet on each side with a heavy hammer until the torque on the bolt is less than 360 N·m (265 lb ft).
6. Tighten bolt (6) again to torque of 870 ± 110 N·m (640 ± 80 lb ft). Hit each collet again until the torque for the bolt is less than 570 N·m (420 lb ft).
7. Tighten bolt (6) to a final torque of 870 ± 110 N·m (640 ± 80 lb ft).
8. Install nut (2) and tighten to torque of 500 ± 65 N·m (370 ± 48 lb ft).
NOTE: At the end of 50 service hours after any pin and collet was installed, loosen nut (2) and tighten the bolt in each collet assembly to 870 ± 110 N·m (640 ± 80 lb ft). Retighten the nut to 500 ± 65 N·m (370 ± 48 lb ft).
9. Connect lubrication hose assembly (8) to the head end of the steering cylinder.
10. Put cover (9) in position on the rear frame. Install the four bolts and the washers that hold cover (9) to the rear frame.
11. Install O-ring seals (10) and (11) in the steering cylinder fittings, as shown.
12. Connect hose assemblies (12) and (13) to the steering cylinder.
13. Start the engine and extend the steering cylinder.
14. Align the bores of the rod end of the steering cylinder with the front frame. Stop the engine. Put 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease in the pin bore and install the pin and shims (as required).
15. Repeat Steps 3 to 8 to install the rod end collet assemblies.
16. Connect lubrication hose assembly (14) (if equipped) to the rod end of the steering cylinder.
17. Fill the hydraulic tank with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the machine that is being serviced.
End By:
a. Remove the steering frame lock pin. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock Pin - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
