Usage:
Start By:
a. Install the steering frame lock pin. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock Pin - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
b. Release the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
NOTE: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.
1. Remove four bolts (1) and the washers that hold steering wheel and boss assembly (2) to the steering metering pump. Remove steering wheel and boss assembly (2) from the cab.
2. Remove the four bolts and the washers that hold instrument panel (3) to the cab.
3. Disconnect electrical connector (4) from the instrument panel electrical harness. Remove the instrument panel.
4. Disconnect four hose assemblies (7) from steering metering pump (8).
5. Remove two bolts (5) and the washers that hold steering metering pump (8) to the support bracket. Remove steering metering pump (8) from the cab.
6. Remove four hydraulic fittings (6) from steering metering pump (8). Remove the O-ring seals from hydraulic fittings (6).
