--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Electronic Technician (CAT ET) is a service tool designed to run on a personal computer under Microsoft Windows®. With CAT ET, you can display the status of a group of parameters (Engine Speed, Temperatures, Pressures, etc.) simultaneously, view and clear active and logged diagnostics, or display the current configuration of the electronic control module (ECM). It provides the same function as the Caterpillar Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP), using your personal computer. CAT ET is designed to run as a stand alone Windows program or can be called from the Service Information System (SIS) using the OS/2 operating system.

If you have been considering making the move to a PC based service tool, now is the time to do it. This CAT ET release will service many Caterpillar applications. The attached chart shows current Caterpillar Model coverage plus enhancements targeted for later this year. All future enhancements and date updates are included with your subscription.

To use CAT ET, both your personal computer and CAT ET software must be registered similar to the ECAP tool today. Therefore, CAT ET is set up as a single use license. This means you must purchase a copy of CAT ET for each personal computer using it plus an appropriate data subscription.

If you are a Service Technician or Service Manager, a great deal of pressure is placed on you to make accurate repairs in a short time frame on products that are increasingly complex. You need tools that will help find the problem quickly and analyze how to correct it. CAT ET is the service tool that allows you to do this. CAT ET provides you with the capability to access the Electronic Control Module (ECM) from a personal computer.

The CAT ET program runs on a standard IBM Compatible Personal Computer using either a Windows, or an OS/2 operating system. A Caterpillar 7X-1700 Communications Adapter must be used to connect the personal computer to the Electronic Control Module (ECM) on a Caterpillar engine or machine. The Communications Adapter input connects to the ECM connector, and its output connects to the Serial Input (RS232) of the personal computer. CAT ET has separate pull-down menus for selecting the different function screens available, making it very easy to use. An ECM Summary screen allows you to view the ECM Version and Identification. Other screens allow Diagnostic Tests and Calibrations to be performed.

FEATURES/FUNCTIONS

* Display parameter status
* View active diagnostics
* View and clear logged diagnostics
* View events where irregularities occurred and were logged by the ECM
* View and change configuration of the ECM
* Automatically retrieve the identification and version identifiers of the ECM
* Perform diagnostic tests
* Perform calibrations
* Retrieve engine totals for fuel used, miles traveled, etc.
* Program Personality Module data to the ECM
* English and metric units of measure, as designated in Microsoft Windows®
* CAT ET includes its own On-Line Help
* CAT ET version number and serial number may be determined from the About box in the Help Menu
