Usage:
3114, 3116, And 3126 Truck Engines
Reference: Special Instruction, SEHS9120-05, "Using The 127-3458 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group".
Factory installed injector sleeves were previously swaged into the cylinder head. There were reports of fuel leakage into the coolant at the upper swage joint of the brass sleeve. During April of 1994, the factory added a roller expanding process to the upper swage joint to improve sealing. However, sleeves installed with this roller expanding process can not be removed with the 4C-4462 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group.
The new 127-3458 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group is now available for injector sleeve replacement in the cylinder heads on 3114 and 3116 Truck Engines with mechanical unit injectors (MUI) AND 3116 and 3126 Truck Engines with Hydraulic Actuated Electronically Controlled Unit Injectors (HEUI). The new 127-3458 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group consists of the former 4C-4462 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group modified to a 127-3460 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group AND additional new tools contained in the new 127-3462 Tool Group. The former tools and new tools must be used together to properly replace the brass injector sleeves. The Reference Special Instruction has been revised to describe the new tools and procedures.
The new tools include a roller expander for installation of the new sleeve, as well as several other new sleeve removal tools that must be used with the former 4C-4462 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group to remove the injector sleeves.
NOTE: The 4C-5568 Puller (large threaded puller) should be removed from the 4C-4462 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group and discarded. However, keep the 4C-5543 Threaded Stud that was used with the puller.
The former 4C-4462 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group can be converted to the new 127-3460 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group (Basic) by discarding the former 4C-5575 Driver. The former 4C-8714 and 4C-8715 Guide Bushings can be discarded or reworked. If the bushings are reworked, refer to "Reworking Bushings" section in the Reference Special Instruction. The new driver and guide bushings are part of the 127-3462 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group (Supplemental).
The former 4C-4462 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group will no longer be serviced, but is replaced by the complete new 127-3460 Sleeve Replacement Tool Group.
