Flashing 3176B And 3406E Personality Modules With NOV95 Software {1901}

Usage:

3175B (9CK1-5000),
3406E (5EK1-5000) Truck Engines

The original personality modules in SOME of the above truck engines can NOT be flashed with NOV95 software. The FLASH program may terminate at 20 to 25 percent complete when attempting to flash these personality modules with NOV95 software.

Many of the personality modules in the affected serial number range CAN be flashed with NOV95 software because the original personality module was replaced with a compatible personality module during an earlier software update or ECM replacement. However, before attempting to flash the personality nodules on engines in the affected serial number ranges, make sure there is a 106-9184 Personality Module available. If the flash attempt fails, try again. If both attempts terminate at 20 to 25 percent complete, replace the personality module with the 106-9184 Personality Module and flash again.

Since the flash process erases the old flash file from the personality module before programming it, a failure while flashing a personality module in the affected range will render the engine inoperable. Once this occurs, there ore two options:

Option 1. Replace the personality module with a 106-9184 Personality Module and flash again.

Option 2. Flash the original personality module with pre NOV95 software.

Option 1 is the preferred method since it makes the engine compatible with all future software releases. However, if a new personality module is not available, Option 2 can be used. Pre NOV95 files have been put back on the Caterpillar Mailbox for down loading if necessary.
