Software Update May Be Required When Changing Fuel Injectors {1900,1902,1290}

Usage:

3406E (5EK1-16576) Truck Engines

3406E Truck Engines prior to 5EK16577, may require an Electronic Control Module (ECM) software update when installing a replacement fuel injector. Engines in this serial number range did not have Injector Code (four digit number on the injector tappet) capability. Replacement fuel injectors require the ECM software to have Injector Code capability. To determine if the ECM software needs to be updated, connect the service tool (ECAP or CAT ET) and check the "Personality Module Release Date". If this parameter is APR94 or newer, the ECM software does not need to be updated. If this parameter is DEC93 or older the ECM software must be updated as part of the fuel injector replacement procedure.
