3406C (3ZJ, 4CK, 8PN),
3406E (5EK) Truck Engines Equipped With A Turbocharger Wastegate
We have had some reports from the field that wastegate line (1) has been either clamped shut or plugged, or the length of rod (2) has been changed. These changes have been made with the expectation of improved engine performance and braking efficiency.
Locations of wastegate line (1) and rod (2).
These changes will NOT enhance engine performance or braking efficiency, even though the boost pressure may show some increase. Tampering with the wastegate can cause excessive pressures and temperatures that could result in damage to the turbocharger, the air to air aftercooler, and/or engine. Also, since the emissions of the engine will change, the engine will no longer be in compliance with EPA certification.
