Usage:

3116 (7SF, 2BK, 9GK, 7HJ, 9LN, 9YN, 8WL);
3126 (1WM) Truck Engines

SUPPLEMENT: 06/01/95

Truck Engine News, April 1995, Page 5, "Air Compressor Installation Procedure".

Disregard Step 1. It includes some incorrect information. The correct Step 1 follows:

1. Put gasket (5) and air compressor (3) in position on timing gear housing (2). Install two bolts and washer (4) that fasten the air compressor and cover (1) to the timing gear housing. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (75±15 lb ft).

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Correct installation of the air compressor is essential to help prevent loosening of the compressor and bending the timing gear cover. Incorrect installation can result in a loose compressor, oil leaks, and/or a cracked timing gear cover. Use the following procedure to install the air compressor:

1. Put gasket (5) and air compressor (3) in position on timing gear housing (2). Install four bolts and washers (4) that fasten the air compressor and cover (1) to the timing gear housing. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 160 ± 15 N·m (118 ± 11 lb ft).

2. First install four bolts and washers (6) finger tight. (These bolts fasten bracket (7) to the air compressor and the cylinder block.) Then tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft).
