Oil Cooler (Engine) - Remove and Install

Usage:

PL61 6P2

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil filter.

  2. Remove the electronic control module (ECM).


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Remove the cable straps and disconnect harness assemblies (1) and (2).

  3. Remove bolts (3) and bracket assembly (4).

  4. Remove four bolts (6) and three bolts (7). Remove oil filter base (5) and the gasket.

  5. Remove remaining bolts (7). Remove engine oil cooler (8) and the gasket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install engine oil cooler (8) in the reverse order of removal.

      Typical Example

    1. Tighten bolts (7) in the sequence as shown in illustration 4. Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 22 N·m (195 lb in).
