Engine Oil Filter and Base - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the electronic control module (ECM).

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove engine oil filter (1). Remove engine oil filter (1). Refer to Operations and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct procedure.

  2. Remove bolts (2) and (3). Remove oil filter base (4) and the gasket.

Installation procedure

  1. Install engine oil filter (1) and oil filter base (4) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (3) and (2) to a torque of 22 N·m (195 lb in).

    2. Tighten engine oil filter (1) to a torque of 12 N·m (106 lb in).
