The D6/D6 XE track gauge nomenclature has changed. The D6/D6 XE retain the availability of three different undercarriage offerings for both push arm and VPAT configurations. There are, however, some changes in undercarriage terminology. The term LGP will continue to be used, and the LGP identifier will continue to appear on machines. The terms XL and XW will no longer be used and will not appear on machines. The narrowest track gauge, formerly called XL, will now be considered the “Standard” configuration. Because the mid-gauge D6/D6 XE VPAT has similar ground pressure performance to the previous D6T LGP VPAT, mid-gauge D6/D6 XE tractors will use the LGP identifier, and be referred to as “ LGP 30”, regarding the 30” max track shoe width. The widest gauge D6/D6 XE configurations will also use the LGP identifier, and be referred to as “ LGP 36”, regarding the 36” shoe width. These changes are referenced in Table 2.

Pusharms, Blades, C-Frame, Hydraulics, ETC.
D6T XL and XW blades and push arms are not compatible with D6/D6 XE blades and push arms because the track gauge has been increased by 2”.
D6T LGP pusharms are partially compatible with D6/D6 XE LGP 36” tractors. D6T LGP push arms will need to be paired with the D6T LGP blade. Also, these pusharms will need to be reworked to allow attachment of the D6/D6 XE LGP 36” tilt cylinder and the blade reworked to move the mounting points inward. The D6/D6 XE hydraulic system pressure has increased above the D6T hydraulic system pressure. If a D6T tilt cylinder is used, the cylinder will have substantially more forced exerted on the cylinder and the systems design. Installing D6T blades or pusharms to a D6/D6 XE tractor is not recommended as the blades or pusharms will experience significantly less life.
D6T VPAT C-frames and blades are not compatible with D6/D6 XE VPAT because the lift cylinders have been changed from vertical to horizontal alignment. Also, the connection method from the C-frame to the machine has been changed.
D6T XL and XW Angle arrangement C-Frame, Brace Arms, and Blade are not compatible with D6/D6 XE Angle arrangement due to the 2” increase in track gauge.
D6T LGP Angle arrangement C-frame and Brace Arms are partially compatible with D6/D6 XE LGP 36” angle arrangement tractors. The D6/D6 XE C-frame could fit on an D6T machine but would need to be paired with D6/D6 XE Brace Arms and tilt cylinders. The blade could be either a D6/D6 XE or D6T blade, but a D6T blade would need to be reworked for new lines routing. The D6/D6 XE tilt cylinders have increased tilt capability, requiring blocks on the back of the blade to be moved. D6T C-frames, Brace Arms, and tilt cylinders should not be attached to a D6/D6 XE machine due to the increase in system pressure. D6T C-frames and Brace Arms should not be fitted with D6/D6 XE tilt cylinders due to the increase in tilt capability.

D6/D6 XE |
In general, D6/D6 XE and D6T blades are not compatible. A D6/D6 XE LGP 36” angle blade can be used on a D6T LGP Angle tractor but must be reworked. A D6T LGP blade must be paired with D6T push arms if used on D6/D6 XE LGP 36” tractors.
D6T blades are compatible between Build 19 and T4f machines. Build 19 machines include a plate and bosses for Stable Blade that are not included on T4f blades. T3 and T4i blade connection points are compatible with T4f and Build 19, but there have been significant structural updates. Less life is expected if a T3 or T4i blade is attached to a T4f or Build 19 machine.
Reference Tables 13,14,15, and 16 for D6/D6 XE and D6T basic blade part numbers.
Lift Cylinders, Lift Cylinders Lines, and Lift Cylinder Mounting Groups
The CAT® Grade Control lift cylinder configuration was not offered for T3 and T4i tractors. D6/D6 XE lift cylinders no longer use position sensors on lift cylinders for CAT® Grade Control so the lift cylinder part numbers do not change for tractors equipped with CAT® Grade Control. D6T VPAT lift cylinders are not compatible with D6/D6 XE VPAT lift cylinders because the cylinders have changed from vertical to horizontal orientation.
D6T VPAT tractors have different part numbers for the right and left-hand lift cylinder and lines groups while D6/D6 XE VPAT tractors now have the same part number for each side.

Winches
Winches are compatible between several D6T models. The winch wiring harness used in T3 and T4i machines has been changed for D6T T4f through D6/D6 XE machines. Putting a T3 winch on a T4f or Build 19 machine that is not winch ready requires more steps. The steps for installing an updated winch to both winch-ready and non-winch-ready machines are depicted in M0093717 and , M0093719. Refer to these publications for installing winches to the machines listed in Table 35 below.
Publication | Machine Model | Winch Part Number |
---|---|---|
M0093717 | T4f | |
M0093719 | Build 19 |
When a tractor is being fitted with a winch that was not originally ordered with the machine, the winch controls and hydraulics for that specific machine build can and should be used. T3 through T4f machines has specific control and hydraulic groups depending on the inclusion of a ripper or fuel tank guards. Build 19 machines have two control and hydraulics groups depending on whether the tractor is VPAT or push arm.
D6 tractors have the option to fit both a standard PTO driven winch and a hydraulic winch. D6 tractors must be fitted with the proper controls and optional winch ready hydraulic lines, 535-7648 Winch Lines for the PA85. The mounting fasteners have been changed from standard to metric on the D6/D6 XE. To fit a D6T winch to a D6, the mounting brackets must be modified to accept metric taper lock studs and nuts or replaced with the mounting brackets for that specific machine build. For PTO driven winches, the coupling and shaft do not change from D6T to D6/D6 XE winches. Table 36 lists the winch mounting group part numbers.
D6 XE tractors are hydraulic winch ready from the factory. D6 XE tractors cannot be fitted with the PTO driven winches used on D6T machines. D6T machines are not designed for and cannot be fitted with a hydraulic winch due to the hydraulic system pressure required.

Counterweight
In general, counterweights are compatible for all D6T and D6/D6 XE tractors. The counterweight mounting fasteners have changed from standard to metric on the D6/D6 XE. To fit a D6T counterweight to a D6/D6 XE, the mounting brackets must be modified to accept metric fasteners or D6/D6 XE mounting brackets may be purchased and attached to the counterweight with the D6T counterweight pins. The pin part number is unchanged, making each counterweight compatible with both D6T and D6/D6 XE mounting brackets.
Note: Due to an updated design, D6/D6 XE tractors no longer need counterweights for balance.

Rippers
D6T rippers are not compatible with the D6/D6 XE due to the increase in hydraulic system pressure. D6T rippers have larger hydraulic cylinders, which paired with the higher system pressure would create a force much greater than the ripper cylinder design.
A D6/D6 XE ripper can be installed on a D6T machine, but the decrease system pressure may cause the ripper to operate much slower and have lesser pry-out force. This is not recommended. Also, the D6/D6 XE ripper cylinder has increased extension capability allowing a higher lift than on D6T tractors.
If a D6/D6 XE ripper is installed on a D6T, the mounting brackets must be modified to accept standard fasteners or replaced with D6T ripper mounting brackets. The pin part number is unchanged, making each ripper compatible with both D6T and D6/D6 XE mounting brackets.
The ripper used on T3 machines was unchanged until Build 19 production. The T3 ripper is compatible with T4i and T4f machines and vice versa. Build 19 introduced the high-lift ripper. The mounting brackets are the same for each D6T machine, meaning any D6T ripper can be mounted to a Build 19 machine. Build 19 high-lift rippers should not be installed on T3 through T4f machines due to the increased cylinder capability.

Striker Box
Illustration 1 | g06387426 |
Striker boxes are compatible between T3 and T4f machines. The striker box part numbers change for Build 19 and D6/D6 XE machines, but T3 through T4f striker boxes can be fitted to Build 19 and D6/D6 XE machines with rework. The tab on 514-1248 Plate needs to be cut down according to the dotted line in Illustration 1 to be flush with the rest of the box to fit the D6/D6 XE frame. Also, mounting fasteners changed from standard to metric for D6/D6 XE tractors so the D6T striker mounting group must be reworked to accept the metric fasteners that fit the D6/D6 XE tractor case.
Illustration 2 | g06387431 |
If a D6/D6 XE striker box is installed onto a D6T machine, there will be a gap between the striker box and the frame where this tab would be. This gap needs reworked to be sealed off by welding on a piece of plate and using a seal according to Illustration 2. The striker mounting group must be reworked to accept the standard fasteners that fit the D6T tractor case.

Final Drive Guard
Seal-type guards are compatible from D6T machines. Seal-type guards cannot be used on D6/D6 XE machines due to design changes in the final drives. Reference Table 41.
Clamshell guards are compatible from T4i to Build 19 machines. Clamshell guards cannot be used on D6/D6 XE machines due to design changes in the final drives. Reference Table 42.
Labyrinth style guards are compatible for T4f through D6/D6 XE machines. Reference Table 43.
Table 44 should be used as a quick reference guide for what types of final drive guards are offered for each generation of tractor.
