D8T and D9T Track-Type Tractors Caterpillar

ECM - Configure

Usage:

D8T FMC
An Electronic Control Module (ECM) must be configured at the time of installation. The ECM will not function properly if the control module has not been configured. Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) is used to access the configuration screen and adjust parameters.

When an ECM is replaced, the ECM must be configured. The software is flashed either at the factory or at the time of installation on the machine.

The saved configuration data from the ECM that was replaced will restore the parameters that were configured. If an ECM was replaced and configuration data from the old ECM could not be saved, most factory default parameters load when the software is flashed to the new ECM. Refer to the Troubleshooting, ECM - Replace in this manual for more information.

"Accessing Configurations"

  1. Turn the key switch to the OFF position.

  2. Connect Cat ET the service tool connector.

  3. Turn the key switch to the ON position.

  4. Select the appropriate ECM.

  5. You are on the main menu. To configure the ECM manually, select the "Service > Configuration" menu item. To use an ECM replacement file select the "Service > Copy > Configuration > ECM Replacement" menu item, follow the prompts in Cat ET. Proceed to Test Step 8.

  6. Expand all configuration groups for the selected ECM.

  7. Review and set each configuration as appropriate for the machine.

  8. Cycle power with the key switch. Leave the key switch in the OFF position for a minimum of 10 seconds.

  9. With the key switch returned to the ON position, Cat ET will initiate communications with all ECM modules on the machine.

  10. Click the "Data Link Disconnect" button.

  11. Disconnect Cat ET from the service tool connector.

  12. Turn the key switch to the OFF position.
