Engine Oil Pump - Disassemble

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


    Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.

  1. Thoroughly clean the outside of the engine oil pump. Disassemble the engine oil pump in a clean area.

  1. Remove the bolts, cover (1), and cover (2) from the back of the engine oil pump.

  1. Place the engine oil pump in an upright position. The gears should face upward.

  1. Remove drive gear (3). This gear drives the fuel transfer pump.

  1. Loosen bolt (4) from gear (5) until the washer is 3.20 mm (0.126 inch) from the gear.

  1. Install Tooling (A). Tighten the screw in Tooling (A). Tap Tooling (A) over the shaft in order to loosen the gear from the shaft. Remove Tooling (A) and gear (5) .

  1. Remove cover (6). Note the location of the dowel in the cover. If necessary, remove the dowel.

    Note: The bearing in the Illustration has an internal groove. New bearings for the engine oil pump will not have an internal groove.

  1. If necessary, use Tooling (B) in order to remove bearings (7) from cover (6). If necessary, remove the dowels from the opposite side of cover (6) .

  1. Remove drive shaft (8) from pump body (9) .

  1. Remove idler shaft (10) from pump body (9) .

  1. If necessary, remove the bearings from pump body (9) .
