Start By:

  1. Separate the track. See the procedure in Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate".
  2. Remove the bulldozer. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bulldozer - Remove".
  3. Remove the rear bottom guards. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bottom Guard - Remove".

Personal injury can result from performing service on the track roller frame.

Refer to Special Instruction, SMHS8273 for inspection and removal procedures before performing any service.

  1. Remove drain plug (1) . Drain the oil from the pivot shaft into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  1. Raise the rear of the machine. Position Tooling (B) . Track guides (2) should remain above the track links when you lower the machine onto Tooling (B) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to raise the front of the machine. Raise the front of the machine until track guides (3) are above the track links.

  1. Select one track roller frame for removal. Position Tooling (C) between the equalizer bar and the main frame on that side of the machine. Tooling (C) maintains the equalizer bar in the original position when you remove the track roller frame.

  1. Place Tooling (D) under the front of track roller frame. Use Tooling (D) in order to apply pressure to the track roller frame.

  1. Remove bolts (4) and retainer plate (5) from the equalizer bar pin and from the track roller frame. Place one small wedge on each side of the equalizer bar and the track roller frame at location (X) .

    Note: The end pins in the equalizer bar can only be removed from the front. The end pins are larger in diameter at the front.

  1. Use Tooling (E) in order to remove the equalizer bar pin from the front. The wedges facilitate the removal of the pin. Make sure that the wedges stay tight.

  1. Remove bolts (7) and trunnion (6) from the track roller frame.

  1. Remove plug (8) from plate (9) .

  1. Remove the bolt and the spacer behind plug (8) .

  1. Use Tooling (F) in order to remove plate (9) from the track roller frame.

  1. Remove the bolts and plate (10) from the end of the pivot shaft.

  1. Remove the ring behind plate (10) .

  1. Remove bolts (11) that hold the seal retainer to the frame of the machine.

    Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy assembly.

    The heavy assembly can fall if using an incorrect hoist to lift the load.

    Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly. Approximate weight of the assembly is given below.

  1. Remove the three bolts. Move the handhold and lighting bracket (12) out of the way of Tooling (G) .

  1. Fasten chain (13) between the rear track roller frame and the front track roller frame. The chain holds the front track roller frame in place.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (G) to the track roller frame. Raise the track roller frame. Remove Tooling (D) . In order to remove the track roller frame from the machine, pull the frame off the pivot shaft. The track roller frame with seven rollers and with two idlers weighs approximately 2300 kg (5000 lb).
