Front Track Roller Frame - Remove

Start By:

  1. Separate the track. See the procedure in Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate" in this module.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: The track roller frame is not equipped with an oil drain plug. Use a suction device in order to remove the oil through the opening by the adjuster valve. If a suction device is not available, drain the oil when you remove the front track roller frame from the rear track roller frame.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and covers (2) from each side of the track roller frame. Remove the O-ring seals from the covers.

  1. Install Tooling (A). Remove guides (3) from each side of the track roller frame.

  1. Fasten a hoist to front track roller frame (4) .

  1. Install Tooling (B) from front track roller frame (4) to a stationary object. Use the hoist and Tooling (B) in order to pull the front track roller frame out of the rear track roller frame until the guide slots are visible. Remove Tooling (B) .

  1. Place a nylon strap around the front track roller frame. Fasten Tooling (B) between the hoist and the nylon strap. Support front track roller frame (4) in a level position. Tooling (B) provides additional stability to the front track roller frame when the guide slots are visible. Use the hoist in order to remove the front track roller frame. The front track roller frame weighs approximately 682 kg (1500 lb).

  1. Remove spiral ring (6) and seal (8) from the rear track roller frame.

  1. Remove ring (7) and bearing (5) from the rear track roller frame.

  1. Remove ring (10) and bearing (9) from the front track roller frame.
