NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Perform the following flush procedure prior to installing the variable valve actuator.

    1. Remove the valve from the oil rail for the variable valve actuator.

    2. Install Tooling (A) in the opening.

    3. Disconnect the harness assemblies for the electronic unit injectors.

    4. Crank the engine for at least 5 seconds in order to flush the oil rail for the variable valve actuator.

    5. Reinstall the valve in the oil rail for the variable valve actuator. Connect the harness assemblies for the electronic unit injectors.

  2. Install variable valve actuator (2).

  3. Install nuts (3) that secure variable valve actuator (2) to the cylinder head.

  4. Adjust the lash for the variable valve actuators to 0.50 ± 0.08 mm (0.020 ± 0.003 inch). Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Variable Valve Actuators - Inspect/Adjust" for more information on adjusting the variable valve actuators.

  5. Connect harness assemblies (1) for variable valve actuator (2).

  1. Install the valve mechanism cover. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".
