Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Service parts incorrectly substituted the 124-1854 Bolt for the 7N-1961 Bolt. The 7N-1961 Bolt uses a higher strength material, and can be substituted for the 124-1854 Bolt, but the 124-1854 Bolt is NOT a suitable substitute for the 7N-1961 Bolt.

A freeze has been issued on the 124-1854 Bolt to prevent issuing this bolt to 3500 engine applications. The 7N-1961 Bolt and the 124-1854 Bolt have the same dimensions. The 7N-1961 Bolts can be identified by an F-C marked on the head, refer to Illustration 1. The 124-1854 Bolts will not have the F-C marking on the head, refer to Illustration 2.
If a 124-1854 Bolt has been installed in a G3500 or 3500 Series engine, contact the Dealer Solution Network (DSN) for additional information specific to the application.
