The previous Marine Monitoring System II (MMS II) and Generator Monitoring System (GMS) used Ethernet as a communication link. The current systems use DH + mode as the communication link.

Most of these systems were ordered with options that required the conversion to DH + mode. When these systems were converted to DH + mode, that communication link made the most common configuration standard. Using DH + mode allows the computer serial port to be used as a connection point for input into the service diagnostic mode for troubleshooting. Using the serial port on the CPU allows a service technician to troubleshoot systems without temporarily disconnecting the local display.

The part numbers for the system components have been updated in order to work with the DH + mode of communications. In the 179-8801 Control Panel Gp, the 190-0330 Module is replaced by the 159-3031 Module. In the 179-8802 Instrument Panel Gp, the 162-0616 Monitor is replaced by the 168-4672 Module .

The Ethernet is still available for use as a communication link. A Custom Quote Request can be obtained by sending an e-mail to Caterpillar at lecservicesupport@cat.com.
