Power Module Switchgear (Low Voltage and Medium Voltage) Caterpillar

Initial Startup Safety Check

Usage:

PM3508 BLM

------ DANGER! ------

Personal injury or death and/or damage to the switchgear and the components of the switchgear may occur if the internal components of the switchgear are not assembled correctly. Components that are improperly located within the switchgear could cause damage to the switchgear. Verify the integrity of the internal components of the switchgear. Ensure that a safety check is performed before the switchgear is energized. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause personal injury or death.

All of the power connections are located in the rear of the cabinet of the switchgear. The bus is designed for connections from below the switchgear.

Perform the following steps in order to complete the safety check before initial start-up:

  1. Ensure that all electrical connections are tight and secure. Refer to table 1.

  1. Remove all of the shipping safety devices and remove all of the shipping retainers that are used in order to secure the equipment.

  1. Ensure the integrity of all bus work.

  1. Ensure that the minimum electrical spacing has not been exceeded. If spacing has been changed, make the necessary adjustments prior to energizing the bus.

  1. Ensure that all switches, circuit breakers and other operating mechanisms operate freely.

  1. Ensure that all control relays are secured in the bases. Carefully push the relays onto the bases.

  1. Ensure that all of the customer interconnects are routed away from the bus work. Ensure that all field interconnects are routed away from any bus work.

  1. Ensure that all of the wiring that is sensitive to electrical noise is properly shielded.

  1. Ensure that all of the connections to ground are secure. Ensure that all of the connections to ground are properly terminated.

  1. Ensure that all of the unnecessary debris has been removed before securing the switchgear.

  1. Ensure that the customer interconnects do not bind with the access panels. Ensure that the customer interconnects do not bind with the enclosure doors.

  1. Ensure that all of the electrical connections to the screw type terminal boards are tight.
