Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Loosen two bolts (1), and remove two bolts (3) and the washers that secure plate (2) to the machine.

- Remove two bolts (4) and the washers that secure front cover (5) to the machine. Remove front cover (5).

- Remove bolt (6) .

- Remove four bolts (7) and the washers that secure side panel (8) .

- Remove three bolts (10) and the washers that secure hand rail (9) to the machine.

- Loosen hose clamp (11), and remove hose (13) .

- Remove two nuts (12) that secure hose (13) to the back of the fuel tank.
- Disconnect electrical connector (14) .
- Shut valve (18) from the fuel tank to the engine. Open drain valve (19) and drain the fuel tank into a suitable container. The capacity of the fuel tank is 280 L (74 US gal).

- Loosen hose clamp (17) and remove the fuel hose.
- Remove bolt (15) that secures the fuel hose to the fuel tank.
- Remove four bolts (16) that secure the fuel tank to the machine.
- Fasten Tooling (A) to the fuel tank, as shown. Use a suitable lifting device to support the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank from the machine. The weight of the fuel tank is 80 kg (175 lb).
