SUBJECT: A LOOSE ELEMENT IN THE WATER SEPARATOR MAY CAUSE A
SPORADIC LOSS OF MACHINE POWER

PROBLEM:

Complaints from the field have been received that certain Excavators may experience a sporadic loss of power. Because of the many possible causes, the sporadic loss of power can be difficult to diagnose accurately. A machine that exhibits a random loss of power can cause excessive site visits for a technician.

SOLUTION:

If a complaint of sporadic power loss is received, the 117-4089 Water Element in the 145-8862 Water Separator Group may be the problem. The fine mesh "sock" inside the element may be loose. The loose mesh can lodge in the element and sporadically restrict the flow of fuel.

Remove and inspect the element. Look into the hole in the element in order to see if the mesh is loose. Replace the element as needed.

The inspection of the water element can prevent the repeated visits that create frustration for the technician and the customer.
