Rework Procedure

Note: Ensure that all safety information, warnings, and instructions are read and understood before any operation or any maintenance procedures are performed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual "Safety Section".

Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.

Preparation of the Machine for Rework:

- Park the machine on level ground in an open location where the upper frame can be rotated in a complete circle with the boom and stick extended. Extend the tracks. Place the blade on the ground and secure the machine from rolling.

- Remove the work tool and retract the bucket cylinder. Use the swing cylinder to center the boom to the middle of the machine. Extend the stick and lower the boom over the blade until the work tool end of the stick is just above the ground but not touching the ground.

- Stop the engine.

1. Measure the swing gear clearance.

1A. Place a tape measure under the work tool end of the stick and note the location of each side of the stick. Refer to Image1.3.1.
Image1.3.1

1B. Use a force gauge to apply 7kg +/- 0.5kg force to one side of the stick. Measure and record the distance of movement at the end of the stick. Refer to Image1.4.1.
Image1.4.1

1C. Use a force gauge to apply 7kg +/- 0.5kg force to the other side of the stick. Measure and record the distance of movement at the end of the stick. Refer to Image1.5.1.
Image1.5.1

1D. Rotate the upper frame 90 degrees so that the boom and stick extend over one track and repeat Steps 1A through 1C.

1E. Rotate the upper frame 90 degrees so that the boom and stick extend to the rear of the undercarriage and repeat Steps 1A through 1C.

1F. Rotate the upper frame 90 degrees so that the boom and stick extend over the other track and repeat Steps 1A through 1C.

Evaluate the Measurements:

The stick should move between 30mm and 45mm in each location.

- If the measurements in Step 1 are not between 30mm and 45mm then adjust the swing gear as instructed in Step 2 below.

- If the measurements taken in Step 1 are between 30mm and 45mm then no further action is needed.

2. Adjust the swing gear.

2A. Loosen the outer 438-5838 Bolts (in 438-5837 Frame Group) that secure the ring gear to the upper frame until there is a 2mm gap between the washer and the gear. Refer to Image1.8.1.
Image1.8.1

2B. Keeping the boom and stick extended, using the swing motor, rotate the upper frame two complete turns to the right then two turns to the left to release assembly stress and optimize the meshing of the ring gear and swing motor pinion. Then retract the boom and the stick.

2C. Gently tighten one bolt on each side until there is no gap between the washer and the upper frame. Then gently tighten one bolt on the front and one in the rear of the machine. Gently tighten the rest of the bolts in the same diagonal pattern to ensure and even gear mesh.

2D. Use the same tightening pattern in Step 2C to tighten each bolt to a specified torque of 125 N.m.

Note: Place a paint mark on each subsequent bolt after applying the final torque to ensure successful completion of all bolts. Confirm that all 17 outer race bolts are installed and torqued.
