Procedure to Replace the Differential Bolts on Certain Asphalt Pavers{4050}

Introduction

The following instructions will describe the steps needed to rework the Asphalt Paver by replace the bolts on differential group.

Read the entire Special Instruction. Understand the information before you perform any procedures. Understand the information before you order any parts or perform any work.

Installation Procedure

  1. Attach a "Do not Operate" warning tag or a similar warning tag to the start switch or controls before you service or repair the equipment. These warning tags are available from your Cat dealer.

Machine Preparation

  1. Park the machine in a smooth surface and retract both the extenders.

  1. Turn the engine start switch OFF position

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Place lockout/tag out in the battery disconnect switch.

  1. Remove the screed.

  1. Remove the rear left wheel.

Differential Bolts Rework

    (A) Hose Cap

    (B) Right Rear Final Drive

  1. Drain the gearbox oil from Hose Cap (A) located on the machine bottom side in correspondence of Right Rear Final Drive (B). Refer to Illustration 2.

    Note: Preserve the oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

    Note: Mark and label hoses when removing hoses

  1. Disconnect Hose As (C) in the rear left wheel compartment. Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Remove Plate (D) by removing Bolts (E). Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Remove the two Clamps (F) .

  1. Remove Seeger (G) from the gearbox shaft located between the rear left final drive and the gearbox. Refer to Illustrations 5 and 6.

    Note: Turn the gearbox shaft by acting on the rear right wheel. Set the proper orientation in order to get Seeger terminals out from the joint

  1. Disconnect the four Hoses (H) from the top side of the rear left final drive.

  1. Remove the rear left final drive by removing eight Bolts (J) .

  1. Remove Bolts (K) on the gearbox top side to remove the fork.

  1. Remove Fork (L) from the gearbox.

    (N) Hub

  1. Remove the eight Bolts (M) and disassemble Hub (N) from the gearbox.

    (1) 8T-4195 Bolt

  1. Replace the 12 Bolts (P) with the new Bolts (1). Apply Loctite 270 and torque Bolts to 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).

    Note: Prior to perform this operation, clean all the gearbox threads by using solvent.

  1. Assemble Hub (N) to the gearbox using eight Bolts (M) .

  1. Install Fork (L) to the gearbox using Bolts (K) .

  1. Assemble the rear left final drive using the eight Bolts (J) .

  1. Install four Hoses (H) to the top side of the rear left final drive.

  1. Install Seeger (G) onto the gearbox shaft.

  1. Secure the final drive drain hose using the two Clamps (F) .

  1. Install Plate (D) using Bolts (E) .

  1. Install Hose As (C) .

  1. Install the rear left wheel.

  1. Fill the gearbox with 7 L (1.85 US gal) of 2P-9863 Lubricant (2) .
