This Special Instruction outlines the procedures necessary to install the 345-6070 ROPS/FOPS Guard Gp on all D series Skid Steers Loaders, Compact Wheel Loaders, and Multi Terrain Loaders.

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.


Preparing the Machine

  1. Move the machine to a smooth level area able to support the weight of the machine.

  2. Shut down the machine and perform lock out / tag out procedure. Attach a "Do Not Operate" warning tag or similar warning to the start switch or the controls before attempting the installation procedure.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lift 345-6071 Plate As (1) into position on top of the cab assembly using the appropriate lifting device. Refer to Illustration 1 for orientation.

    Note: The 345-6071 Plate As (ROPS) (1) weighs approximately 62.9 kg (138.7 lb).

  2. Place 345-6073 Plate (3) between cab and ROPS assembly (1) at the right front cab corner and align the holes to match.

    (6) 7X-2553 Bolts
    (7) 8T-4122 Hard Washers

  3. Thread two 7X-2553 Bolts (6) and two 8T-4122 Hard Washers (7) through the holes in ROPS assembly (1) and plate (3) and into the corresponding holes in the right front of the cab. Refer to Illustration 3.

    Note: Do Not tighten down the 7X-2553 Bolts (6) at this time to facilitate ease of installation for the remaining fasteners.

  4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 on the left front corner of the machine cab.

  5. Place one 3H-7654 Hard Washer (4) between the right rear cab corner and ROPS (1). Be sure to align washer (3) with the hole in the cab as shown in Illustration 4.

  6. Install one 8T-4183 Bolt (8) and one 7D-1649 Hard Washer (5) through the holes in ROPS (1), washer (4) and the right rear cab corner. Refer to Illustration 5.

  7. Locate 8T-4183 Bolt (8) where the bolt enters into the cab from the outside.

  8. Install one 3H-7654 Hard Washer (4) and one 8T-4244 Nut (9) onto the threads of bolt (8).

  9. Repeat Steps 5 through 8 to secure the left-hand rear corner of the cab.

  10. Tighten bolts on the front cab corners to a torque of 240 ± 40 N·m (177 ± 29 lb ft).

  11. While using a backing wrench, tighten the bolts on the rear cab corners to 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft)

  12. Place 345-6072 Film (2) on the right-hand side of 345-6071 Plate As (ROPS) (1) where located by dimensions (A) and (B).

    Note: Be sure to clean the area for film placement before applying film (2). Follow the appropriate CAT standards and specifications for film placement.
