Introduction

Do not perform any of the following procedure until the information is read and understood.

Most Caterpillar remanufactured turbochargers are shipped with a generic orientation, which the dealer or customer must switch. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS0956, "Installation Instructions for Turbochargers{1052}" for installation instructions. Torques values for turbochargers and clamps can be found at Specification, "Turbochargers" and the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

Alignment Best Practices

Proper alignment is critical where the housings meet the center cartridge at joints (A) and (B) as shown in Illustration 1.

Excessive loosening of these joints can cause misalignment of the housing. The housings if not aligned properly can strike and damage the turbocharger wheels. Use proper torque values on the clamps. Over torquing can cause the clamp to yield and lead to early clamp failure. Early clamp failure can lead to damage of the housings and wheels.

Use the following procedure to find installation and torque specifications information on turbochargers.

  1. Go to SIS Web at :

    https://www.sis.cat.com/

  2. Enter the engine serial prefix in the field "Serial Number or Prefix".

  3. Select "Systems & Components".

  4. Select "Air Inlet and Exhaust System".

  5. Select "Turbocharger Gp".

  6. Select "Specifications".

  7. Select the corresponding title with the correct turbocharger part number.
