SUBJECT: THE PUMP DRIVE BOLTS MAY BECOME LOOSE
PROBLEM:
There have been reports of the 6V-5683 Bolts that are in the 146-6274 Pump Drive Group coming loose. The torque converter inlet oil and outlet oil are fed through the pump drive. If the bolts become loose, the torque converter oil can leak back into the transmission case. This leakage will cause torque converter overheating. Also, the leakage will cause low-pressure readings at the following locations:
- Torque converter inlet
- Torque converter outlet
- Transmission lube
SOLUTION:
If the above symptoms are encountered on a machine, the 6V-5683 Bolts should be checked for tightness. If the bolts are found to be loose, replace the existing bolts with new 6V-5683 Bolts. Use a small amount of 4C-4030 Thread Lock on the threads of the new bolts. Tighten bolts to a torque of 12 +/- 3 Nm (9 +/- 2 lb/ft).
