SUBJECT: Caterpillar Monitoring System Module May Experience Cat Data Link Communications Problems
PROBLEM:
When Caterpillar Electronic Technician (CAT ET) is connected to a machine, it sends a request to all Electronic Control Modules (ECM) asking for their serial numbers and device information. All ECM?s respond to this request, resulting in a large amount of information on the Cat Data Link. This influx of information may cause the 154-7443 Cat Monitoring System to miss the message, causing CAT ET to assume that the Cat Monitoring System is blank.
SOLUTION:
If CAT ET indicates "blank box" (Illustration 1), perform a second CAT ET software connection. A second CAT ET software connection can be performed by clicking on the "Connect" icon (Illustration 3) that is located on the ET screen. When performing a second CAT ET software connection, it is not necessary to disconnect and reconnect the communication adapter.
