Problem:
PREMIUM SOFTWARE UPDATE VERSION 1.1 (Literature # YEXN0914) was distributed to update the power train software on certain Motor Graders and Off Highway Trucks. If this program is installed on computers with Caterpillar Electronic Technician 2.4, it will cause ET not to function. The Premium Software Update program will not cause any problem with ET 3.0
Solution:
The recommended solution is to update to ET 3.0.
If this is not possible the problem can be fixed by following the procedure below. The problem is caused because both Premium Software Update and ET use a computer program file named WBTRCALL.DLL. However, there are different versions of this file. The version of WBTRCALL.DLL used in Premium Software Update is the same as that used in ET 3.0 but not the same as in ET 2.4. The procedure below can be used to re-install a version of WBTRCALL.DLL that will work with both Premium Software Update and ET 2.4.
Electronic Technician 2.4 conflict with Premium Software Update 1.1
DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE USING ET 3.0
The Premium Software Update 1.1 will upgrade WBTRCALL.DLL to a newer version that Electronic Technician 2.4 does not support. If you have installed Premium Software Update 1.1 it is recommended that you install ET 3.0. If this is not possible you can fix the problem using your ET 2.4 CD by following the procedure below.
The steps to resolve this problem are as follows:
Go to the START button and do a FIND of FILES and FOLDERS for a file named WBTRCALL.DLL located on the hard drive, typically drive C.
Scroll to the right to reveal the date of this file. If the date is anything other than 04/02/93, it will need renamed to WBTRCALL.CAT. This can be done by "right-clicking" on that file, selecting RENAME, and typing the new name.
After renaming, put the ET 2.4 software CD in the drive. Go to Windows Explorer and click once on the drive letter associated with the CD-ROM.
Do a "CONTROL-F" after highlighting the CD-ROM with ET in it.
Type in WBTRCALL.DLL in the NAMED field and hit the FIND NOW button. When WBTRCALL.DLL file appears, scroll to the right to see the date. It should be 04/02/93.
This file needs copied to the Windows/System or WINNT/System directory on the hard drive.
Copying can be done by left-clicking on WBTRCALL.DLL to highlight the file and then go to EDIT and select COPY.
Go to and left-click on the appropriate directory (as directed in step 6). Then go to EDIT and select PASTE to put WBTRCALL.DLL in that directory.
You can verify that the correct file and date have been copied to the directory by doing a FIND on WBTRCALL.DLL on the hard drive.
Try to restart ET now. It should work.
