PS-150/200B Canopies May Develop Stress Cracks

Usage:

PAVING PRODUCTSPS-150B (3XR),
PS-200B (5JR) PAVING PRODUCTS

Problem:

The 145-3253 canopies used on the PS150/200Bs may develop stress cracks when being transported with the machines facing in the forward direction. The wind acting against the canopies has caused cracks, starting at the end of the mounting plate/gussets running across the side support tubes, and into the canopy, toward the center on the canopy. It is recommended that the machine be backed up onto the truck so it faces the rear when transporting it between job sites. The mounting plates/gussets on the canopy are being lengthened to help increase support of the canopy. New mounting plates/gussets can be fabricated and installed as per the following procedure.

Solution:

Fabricate two new mounting plate/gussets as per figure 1. Use steel with a minimum yield strength of 207 MPa. Cut out the two existing mounting plate/gussets and weld in the two new plates as per figure 2. A low hydrogen process is recommended. Figure 1 Figure 2 1) Existing canopy 2) New mounting plate
