Correct Installation Of Torque Converter Sleeve Bearing

Usage:

ARTICULATED TRUCKSD400D (8TF),
D350E (9LR),
D400E (2YR) ARTICULATED TRUCKS

Problem:

1T-1353 Sleeve Bearing is part of 1T-1815 Carrier within the torque converter. It has been reported that the sleeve bearing has been seizing onto 1T-1359 Hub.

Solution:

If the carrier is not damaged, a replacement 1T-1353 Sleeve Bearing can be pressed into place in the carrier. If the carrier is damaged, the carrier must be replaced along with a new sleeve bearing.

Illustration 1.

Sleeve Bearing Location

The inside diameter of the carrier (2) is 80.962 ± 0.013 mm (3.1875 ±.0005 in).

After installation to the carrier, the inside diameter of 1T-1353 Sleeve Bearing (1) should be 76.360 ± 0.038 mm (3.0063 ± .0015 in). The sleeve bearing should be installed to a depth of 1.5 ± 0.5 mm (.06 ± .02 in) from the end of the carrier (A).

Installing the sleeve bearing too deep into the carrier will cause the sleeve bearing to ride up onto the internal chamfer of the carrier.

The outside diameter of 1T-1359 Hub (3) should be 76.200 ( 0.013 mm (3.00 ( .0005 in) at the bearing journal.

When installing the sleeve bearing to the carrier, dealers can use 4C-4032 Bearing Mount Compound to help with the interference fit.
