Cab Roof Panel May Come Loose

Usage:

AGRICULTURAL TRACTORSCHALLENGER 65E (6GS),
CHALLENGER 75E (6HS),
CHALLENGER 85E (6JS),
CHALLENGER 95E (6KS) AGRICULTURAL TRACTORS

Problem:

There have been reports of roof panels coming loose at the rear of the cab.

Solution:

The problem is generally due to excessive wind force when transporting the machine at high speeds. The rear section of the roof breaks loose from the metal anchor bracket. Changes are being made to the production process to add mechanical fasteners in order to improve the strength in this area. Until the design improvements are implemented, a field reinforcement procedure can be performed and is shown below. Machines which will be transported at high speeds, or machines with roof panel brackets that have become partially unbonded, should have reinforcement fasteners installed.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the roof panel.
2. Use Illustrations 1 and 2 to locate the area to add the reinforcement screw.
3. Drill two 9.35 mm (0.375 inch) holes. Start on the inside, directly above the existing weld nuts in bracket (C) and the roof. See dimension (B) in Illustration 2. Do not drill too fast in order to ensure a clean hole is made.
4. Install screw (1), washer (2), and nut (3), as shown. Tighten the nut to a torque of 15 ( 3 N·m (133 ± 27 lb in).
