Usage:
785B (6HK1-UP) TRUCKS
Problem:
Restriction of lubrication flow from the final drive back into the differential housing causes increased oil temperatures.
Solution:
Final drive oil temperature may be decreased by modifying the drain hole diameter from 13.00 mm (.511 in) to 20.00 mm (.787 in) on the 785, 785B Off-Highway Trucks.
Procedure To Modify Retainer
Refer to the following procedure to modify the retainer. Remove 106-6540 Retainer from 0R-8401, 6G-9345, 8X-9489 or 140-7626 Wheel Group. At (A) sixteen places, increase oil drain hole diameter from 13.00 mm (.511 in) to 20.00 mm (.787 in) on the 785, and 785B Off-Highway Trucks. Refer to Illustration.
NOTE: Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly Service Manual.
NOTE: It is not recommended to rework 8W-5919 Retainer. Replace 8W-5919 Retainer, located in 0R-8401, 6G-9345 or 8X-9489 Wheel Group, with a modified 106-6540 Retainer.
