Improved Lubricaiton Flow Through The Inner Rear Wheel Bearing Caterpillar

Improved Lubricaiton Flow Through The Inner Rear Wheel Bearing

Usage:

OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS784B (5RK1-UP) TRACTORS;
785 (8GB1-UP),
785B (6HK1-UP) TRUCKS

Problem:

Inadequate lubrication flow through the final drive may be causing early failure of inner rear wheel bearing.

Solution:

Oil flow from the rear axle lubrication, cooling and filtration system can be improved and enhanced. This modification may help in extending the current inner rear wheel bearing life.

Procedure To Modify Rear Axle Lubrication:

Refer to the following publication and procedure for modification of the rear wheel stations.

Special Instruction, SEHS9984; "Rear Axle Lubrication, Cooling And Filtration Retrofit for 785 And 785B Off-Highway Trucks", (Tool List), (Machining, Welding And Fabrication Required For Rear Axle Lubrication, Cooling and Filtration Installation).

1. Modify 107-8539 or 131-2524 Axle Housing (rear). Reference Special Instruction, SEHS9984.
2. Remove 131-2526 Axle Housing Lubrication Tube and install 142-4952 Axle Housing Lubrication Tube into the modified axle housing.

NOTE: Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly Service Manual.

3. Remove and modify the 125-7924 Seal Retainer. Refer to illustration for machining instructions.
