Possible Failure Of 8X-5972 Steering Hose Due To Chafing On Sevice Brake Clip Caterpillar

Possible Failure Of 8X-5972 Steering Hose Due To Chafing On Sevice Brake Clip

Usage:

OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS793 (3SJ),
793B (1HL) TRUCKS

Problem:

The 8X-5972 Hose Assembly, located in the 8X-0237 Lines Group-Steering Oil, may contact and wear on the 5P-7466 and 5P-7467 Clip in the 8X-0235 Lines Group-Service Brake if the 6V-9008 Elbow orientation is not correct.

Solution:

Inspect the orientation of 6V-9008 Elbow (2) on the lower end of 8X-5972 Hose Assembly (1). The elbow should be 20 degrees off vertical towards the centerline of the truck. If necessary, change orientation of the 6V-9008 Elbow to position the 8X-5972 Hose Assembly towards the centerline of the truck. Illustration 1 shows location of parts to be inspected.

Inspect 5P-7466 and 5P-7467 Clip (3) and (4) orientation on 8X-6161 Hose Assembly (6) located in the 8X-0235 Lines Group-Service Brake. The clip should have 5P-8112 Grommet (6) towards the top relative to the mounting bolt and towards the centerline of the truck, away from the frame. Illustration 2 shows location of parts to be inspected.

Changing the 6V-9008 Elbow and 5P-7466 and 5P-7467 Clip orientation will eliminate potential chafing and failure of the 8X-5972 Hose Assembly.
