Cooling System Overheating Caterpillar

Cooling System Overheating

Usage:

BACKHOE LOADERS416B (8SG);
428B (7EJ) BACKHOE LOADERS

Problem:

Since the introduction of R134A air conditioning systems on the above machine models, some customers have complained of cooling system overheating.

This problem is thought to be associated with the fitting of a much larger air conditioning condenser which needs to be used to accommodate the R134A air conditioning system. This larger A/C condenser can cause the air flow across the radiator to be reduced causing the machine cooling system to overheat.

Solution:

There is a high ambient cooling system arrangement available in the 416B-8SG parts book - form number SEBP2202. On page number 46 of the book is the 104-4222 high ambient arrangement group number. Within this group are the parts required to increase air flow across the radiator on the machine models listed above.

If cooling system overheating persists after fitting the above parts to the machine, then the recommendation is to have louvres or vents added to the engine enclosure side panels. This will assist in venting hot air which may be trapped within the engine enclosure.
