Improved Shift Handle Requires Special Installation Procedure

Usage:

WHEEL LOADERS918F (3TJ, 2CK, 5DL),
924F (5NN, 4YN, 7PN, 6MN),
928F (2XL, 8AK, 7YM) WHEEL LOADERS;
IT18F (6ZF, 5EJ),
IT24F (4NN, 6KN),
IT28F (3CL, 1JL) INTEGRATED TOOLCARRIERS

Problem:

A new electronic shift handle is now available for these models. The new electronic shift handle is for use on Autoshift machines only. The new 122-6103 Control Group requires a change to the wiring harness. The new 122-6103 Control Group is not a direct replacement for the former 109-3664 Control Group.

NOTE: The 122-6103 Control Group contains electronic circuitry, and cannot be tested by the ohmmeter method shown in the Service Manual. Diagnosis of a fault in the 122-6103 Control Group is by the in-board diagnostics built into the Autoshift control.

Solution:

Installation of the new 122-6103 Control Group, requires modification of the machine wiring. The following chart and instructions document the parts, tooling, and procedures required to perform the wiring modification. Refer to the electrical schematic in the service manual for assistance in determining the correct connectors and wiring.

1.Make an adapter harness as shown in the following illustration. The harness will be available in the Parts Department at a later date.
2.Inside the cab Right Hand service compartment, locate the 4E-0599 Harness Assembly. The 4E-0599 Harness Assembly connects the main cab harness to the Autoshift control box on the wall behind the operator's seat.
3.Locate the rectangular 24-terminal connector of 4E-0599 Harness Assembly. The connector is lying on the cab floor inside the service compartment. The connector is NOT one of the connectors that passes through the cab floor.
4.Remove wire 164 from location 20 in that connector.
5.Install wire 164 into location 1 of the 102-8807 Plug Kit. Install a 8T-8737 Plug into the unused location 2 in that plug.
6.Connect 102-8807 Plug Kit, just assembled in Step (5), to the adapter harness.
7.Insert the two socket terminals of the adapter harness into location 19 and location 20 of the 24-terminal connector of the 4E-0599 Harness Assembly.
8.Secure the adapter harness with tie-wraps as required.

The purpose of the adapter harness is to supply +24 Volt power to the electronics in the new 122-6103 Control Group.

TOOLS REQUIRED:

1- 8T-5318 Removal Tool
1- 1U-5804 Crimp Tool
1- 9U-7561 Soldering Iron
