Problem:

A majority of the 6E-6406 Steering Hand Metering Pumps returned for failure have been found to function to new part specifications when disassembled, cleaned, assembled and tested. Current field demand for this part is exceeding production capability of the supplier.

Solution:

Before ordering a new 6E-6406 Pump Group, disassemble the removed pump group, clean all parts with a clean solvent and a soft brush and assemble using a 118-4341 Seal Kit. See Service Manual for correct disassembly and assembly instructions.

Replace with a new pump group only if testing after assembly shows that the former pump was badly worn, or if scratched parts are seen upon disassembly.

This change is adaptable to first production on machines using this pump group.
