Screed Extender Support Bushings May Come Loose And Come Out Of The Frame Caterpillar

Screed Extender Support Bushings May Come Loose And Come Out Of The Frame

Usage:

PAVING PRODUCTSAP-1000 (1HD),
AP-1050 (1JG) ASPHALT PAVERS EQUIPPED WITH 10-20B AND 10-20B WIDE PLATE EXTEND-A-MAT SCREEDS

Problem:

The 8I-0255 Bushings (part of the 8I-0214 Sloper Group) or 8I-0256 Bushings (part of the 8I-0257 Adjuster Group) may come loose and move out of the frame assembly bores.

Solution:

Use the following method to install replacement 8I-0255 or 8I-0256 Bushings.

NOTE: It is important that the following special precautions be taken when installing the replacement bushings.

NOTE: The cement, Metalset A4 Aluminum Filled Epoxy Resin Cement, which comes in either 6 or 11 ounce (net weight) self-metering tubes, as well as larger cans, is available through national distributors, or can be obtained directly from the manufacturer at:

1.The support frame bore should be cleaned of residual cement. The bore should be roughened slightly to provide a better bonding surface for the cement. Use a solvent that will not leave a film to clean the bore before the gluing process.
2.The new replacement bushing should be installed using Metalset A4 Aluminum Filled Epoxy Resin Cement.

The cement, a two-part epoxy, should be applied to both the outer bushing and frame bore surfaces. Approximately .4 ounces of the cement is required per bushing installation. The bushing should be centered and properly aligned within the bore.

3.Once the bushing has been installed, the cement must be allowed to cure.

Despite the suggested cure times provided by the cement manufacturer, factory experience indicates that for best results, the cement should be cured for a minimum of 12 hours at room temperature. Even longer times should be allowed for cooler temperatures. The cement should not be applied at temperatures below 60°F.
