Problem:
The Heavy Duty and Rotating Bushing Track Groups have taller links when new. This causes the bottom of the Track Guiding guards to contact the pin boss area on the link at a higher point when all components are new. In some applications, this can result in the pin boss end being scrubbed from contact with the guiding guard.
Solution:
Changes are being made to Track Guiding guards to provide additional guiding and reduce the possibility of riding up on the pin boss that causes the scrubbing.
On tractors that are experiencing excessive pin boss scrubbing, an additional wear strip can be welded on the bottom of the guards to provide additional wear guiding. This strip can be fabricated using 9 mm (3/8 in) thick steel wear plates that are 25 mm (1 in) wide. On the outside edge, make a 45 degree bevel 6 mm (.2 in) high to provide a point for welding. The length of the wear strip can be determined by measuring the existing guard or wear strip at the bottom.
As the undercarriage wears, it will be necessary to inspect for possible contact at the end of the guiding guard and track shoe. This becomes necessary when operating on very uneven terrain. If this occurs, then the end of the wear strip may need to be trimmed to provide clearance.
