Bolts Used To Mount Water Spray Pump And Support Assembly May Come Loose

Usage:

PAVING PRODUCTCB-534B (4JL),
CB-634 (5CL) VIBRATORY COMPACTORS

Problem:

Two bolts (A) are used in conjunction with a two-piece clamp to mount the water pump. These bolts may be too long and may work loose after a period of time.

Four bolts (B) used to retain the support assembly for the water spray pump may come loose allowing damage to the water pump group.

The two bolts in question are identified in Illustration 1.

Solution:

The 5E-8327 Clamp is a three piece assembly with two 1/4"-20 bolts. To make sure the clamp assembly provides a secure mounting for the water pump, it is recommended to add an 8T-4205 Washer for each bolt.

An alternate method to increase the grip for the clamp assembly would be to make a spacer from 4.78 mm (.188 in) thick mild steel using the dimensions in Illustration 2. Assemble the spacer between the clamp cap and the top clamp piece. Use the spacer in place of the 8T-4205 Washers. When installing the spacer, use two new 8S-4710 Bolts [1/4"-20 thread, 102 mm (4 in) long].

Remove four 8T-4200 Bolts (B) that retain the support assembly. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Compound to the threads and install the bolts, tightening them to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
