Hydraulic Steering System May Overheat Caterpillar

Hydraulic Steering System May Overheat

Usage:

WHEEL LOADERS826C (87X) COMPACTORS

Problem:

There have been several reports of hydraulic system overheating for the machines listed. The problem is caused by a combination of: Steering system oil cooler plugging up with dirt and debris and restricting air flow; and increased heat loads that resulted from subtle system design changes which were effective with 826C (87X1190-Up) Compactors.

Solution:

If the hydraulic steering system overheats, use the following steps.

1.Remove all dirt and debris from the air path in front of, and behind the hydraulic steering system oil cooler. This will improve the air flow through the cooler and reduce the chance of system overheating. This step is adaptable to 826C (87X1-Up) Compactors.
2.On machines with a product identification number (PIN) of 87X1191-1602, replace the 9J5700 Steering Valve Group with a new 102-3498 Steering Valve Group. This step is adaptable only to 826C (87X1191-1602) Compactors.

NOTE: Perform Step 3 if, and ONLY if the problem of overheating persists in the hydraulic steering system.

3. Replace the 3G2238 Cartridge (Steering Pump) Group with a new 6E3521 Cartridge (Steering Pump) Group. The 6E3521 Cartridge (Steering Pump) Group has a smaller displacement, and therefore, will reduce the machines steering response at low idle. This step is adaptable to 826C (87X1-Up) Compactors.
