Problem:
There have been reports of the 838170 Boom Lock Group having a failure of one or both of the 838419 Studs that retain the 838424 Boom Stop into the No. 1 section of the boom.
A 838419 Stud failure will NOT cause the boom to accidentally fail if a hose ruptures, overcenter valve fails or a seal leaks. A stud failure could allow the boom stops to be dislodged and fall. If the 838419 Studs are damaged, the amchine should not be used until damage is repaired.
Solution:
If a boom stop needs to be repaired because of the 838419 Stud breaking, a 6mm x 20mm x 65mm steel plate can be welded in position as shown in the illustration. this plate will allow the studs to fload in the slotted holes without being sheared off.
NOTE: The boom lock is not intended to prevent the powering down of the boom. It is provided to prevent lowering of the boom if hydraulic pressure is lost.
