Description of Change:

NOTE: This article replaces Service Magazine SEPD0458, 02/15/99; Page 8; "Thrust Buttons For Planetary End Housing Assembly Salvage Now Available".

A 147-2392 Thrust Button is now available to salvage the planetary end housing assembly when contact damage from the ring gear has occurred.

Illustration 1. Typical thrust button hole location. (Dimension in millimeters.)

Illustration 2. Section F-F. Thrust button hole dimensions.

It is necessary to machine twenty-four ? 15.5 ± 0.1 mm (.61 ± .004 in) holes with ? 25 ± 0.3 mm (1.0 ± .012 in) and 5 ± 0.1 mm (.2 ± .004 in) deep counterbore in the planetary end housing assembly as in Illustration 1 and 2.

Illustration 3. Depth dimension for 9U-9850 End Housing Assembly and 8E-5676 End Housing Assembly.

Illustration 4. Depth dimension for 3T-0213 End Housing Assembly.

It is also necessary to machine the depth of the 440 mm (17.3 in) bore, where the ring gear is located in the housing end, to a different depth to allow the buttons to make contact with the ring gear. Refer to Illustration 3 and Illustration 4 for proper dimension.

The thrust buttons are installed in the planetary end housing assembly and held in place by a baffle that is bolted to the housing. The ring gear then will contact the thrust buttons and the possibility of damage to the end housing assembly, ring gear and contamination by metallic particles will be reduced.

Adaptable To: The 147-2392 Thrust Button is adaptable to the 3T-0213 Planetary End Housing Assembly used in 784B (5RK1-Up), 784C (2PZ1-Up), 785 (8GB1-Up), 785B (6HK1-Up), 785C (1HW1-Up), 785C HAA (5AZ1-Up), 789B (7EK1-Up) Off-Highway Trucks.

The 147-2392 Thrust Button is adaptable to the 9U-9850 Planetary End Housing Assembly used in 793 (3SJ1-Up) Off-Highway Trucks.

The 147-2392 Thrust Button is adaptable to the 8E-5626 Planetary End Housing Assembly used in 789C (2BW1-Up), 793B (1HL1-Up), and 793C (4AR1-Up), Off-Highway Trucks.
