Service Magazine SEPD0481, Article 10, Page 17, July 19, 1999; "Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) Version 2.4 Improves The Software FLASH Process For Engine Electronic Control Measures".

The title of this article is incorrect. This title should read as follows:"Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) Version 2.4 Improves The Software FLASH Process For The Engine Electronic Control Module (ECM)".

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: Engine electronic control modules (ECM) contain FLASH memory, for storage of the application software file within the ECM. The main advantage of FLASH memory is that it can be programmed electronically over the machine data link, by means of the WinFlash utility, which is part of the ET service tool. It has been found that the FLASH process sometimes terminates prior to completion of the FLASH process. ET Version 2.4 contains improvements in the WinFlash utility, which achieve successful completion of the engine ECM flash process. Specifically, ET performs additional checks during data transfer between ET and the engine ECM. ET V2.4 compensates accordingly, allowing more time for the engine ECM to process the FLASH file being transferred from ET. The ET V2.4 FLASH improvements are compatible with previous ADEM II engine software FLASH files.
