Description of Change:

Pressure spikes in the air inlet piping can cause the electronic engine control to falsely indicate a restricted air filter. False air filter warnings can be reduced by using a filtered adapter between the inlet air piping and the air inlet pressure sensor.

The 172-0195 Adapter is a direct replacement for the current 9X-0262 Adapter Assembly.

To install the new adapter, use the following procedure:

Illustration 1.
This is an illustration of the left side of the engine. Position (A) is the location of the existing adapter assembly in the right side tube assembly.

1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the existing air inlet sensor and remove the air inlet sensor from the adapter assembly.

2. Remove the existing 9X-0262 Adapter Assembly from the right side tube assembly.

3. Install two 6V-5048 O-Ring Seals on the new 172-0195 Adapter Assembly.

4. Install the 172-0195 Adapter Assembly into the right side tube assembly.

NOTE: The adapter must be installed with the filter opening (A) toward the air inlet pressure sensor and (B) inserted into the tube assembly.

5. Tighten the 172-0195 Adapter Assembly to a torque of 10 ± 2 N·m (7.4 ± 1.50 lb ft).

6. Reinstall the sensor into the 172-0195 Adapter Assembly and reconnect the electrical connector to the sensor.

7. Repeat Step 1 through Step 6 for the left side tube assembly.

Effective With: The 172-0195 Adapter Assembly is effective with 776D (5ER126), 777D (3PR1038) and 777D HAA (2YW106). The 172-0195 Adapter is not in production with the large trucks.

Adaptable To: The 172-0195 Adapter Assembly is adaptable to 776D (5ER1-125), 784B (5RK1-Up), 784C (2PZ1-Up), 777D (3PR1-1037), 777D HAA (2YW1-105), 785B (6HK1-Up), 785C (1HW1-Up), 785C (5AZ1-Up) HAA, 789B (7EK1-Up), 789C (2BW1-Up), 793B (1HL1-Up), 793C (4AR1-Up), and 793C (4GZ1-Up). The 172-0195 Adapter is adaptable to any earlier models that have been retrofitted with VIMS.
