Improved Boom Electrical Harness Routing For Increased Reliability {1408}

Usage:

RTC60 (5PF),
RT60 (5DG),
RT80, RT100 (1GJ) Telescopic Material Handlers

Reference: Service Magazine; October 21, 1996; page 17; "Rolling Hose Pulley Modification Improves Hose Retention."

Description of Change: The routing of the boom electrical harness has been changed to improve reliability under all operating conditions.

Adaptable To: The improved electrical harness routing is effective with RTC60 (5PF633), RT60 (5DG331), RT80 (1GJ860), and RT100 (1GJ893) Telescopic Material Handlers and is adaptable to all earlier machines. The parts required are listed in the chart.

Procedure:

1. Position the boom horizontal and support with a sutiable stand. Remove the cover from the rear of the number one boom section.

2. Remove the extend cylinder anchor assembly (1) and the rolling hose guide pulleys (2) to improve access to the rear of the boom.

3. Disconnect the rolling hose from the rear of number three boom section.

4. RT60 and RTC60 machines only:Shorten the center hose by 65 mm (2.6 in) as shown in Illustration 3. A die grinder can be used to cut the hose. Install a piece of heat shrink tube (10) over the cables, tuck this inside and fold down over the outside to cover the hose braid and prevent cable chafing.

5. Pull the cables through the hose until connector (5) is lying flush against the heat shrink tube.

Illustration 4; Dimension (B) is 65 mm (2.6 in).

6. All Listed Models:Ensure that connector (5) is positioned as shown and then install clamp (6) with Bolt (7), Nut (8),and washer (9).

7. Install tie wraps (4) as shown and apply RTV sealant (11) to prevent them from slipping.

8. Connect the rolling hose to the rear of the number three boom section.

9. Route the electrical cables across the top rear of the number three boom section and secure with two clips (3).

10. If required, modify the rolling hose top pulley as described in the reference article.

11. Install all items previously removed.
