Usage:
Challenger 35 (8DN),
Challenger 45 (1DR),
Challenger 55 (7DM) Agricultural Tractors
Description of Change: A new plate has been bolted onto the alternator group for ease of tightening the fan belts. The plate contains a 13 mm (.5 in) square hole allowing the insertion of a one half inch drive breaker bar to facilitate the movement of the alternator to tighten the belts.
Adaptable To: The new 123-7700 Plate has been added to the 108-8304 Alternator Group. The 123-7700 Plate is effective with the Challenger 35 (8DN564), Challenger 45 (1DR1203-1217, 1220-Up), and Challenger 55 (7DM452-467, 469-Up). The 123-7700 Plate is adaptable to all earlier tractors.
Procedure To Install 123-7700 Plate
Illustration 1. Existing alternator guard (A).
1. Remove and discard existing bolt and washer that secures the top of the alternator to the adjustment strap.
2. Install plate (1) using bolt (2) and washer (3). See Illustration 1.
3. Use a 13 mm (.5 in) breaker bar, inserted into the square hole, to adjust the alternator belt tension.
4. Tighten bolt (2) to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (78 ± 15 lb ft).
NOTE: Guard (A) on some tractors may have a square hole provided which will not interfere with the installation or use of plate (1).
