Service Magazine, September 16, 1996; Page 9; "Snap Ring Retains Rod Wiper Seal In Several Hydraulic Cylinder Groups"

In Chart A, the part number at the intersection of the Ring-Retaining column and the 3G-5291 Tilt Cylinder Group row is not correct. The correct Ring-Retaining part number for the 3G-5291 Tilt Cylinder Group is 6V-5203.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: A snap ring retains the rod wiper seal in the hydraulic cylinder groups listed in this article. Cylinder groups, before this change, used bolts with washers or bearing mount sealant to retain the wiper seal.

Some cylinder groups require new cylinder heads, revised cylinder heads with new wear rings, or revised heads to use the snap ring.

Adaptable To: This change is effective with the engineering change number for cylinder groups listed in the following charts.

NOTE: An engineering change number indicates effectivity of this improvement. The cylinder group part number, engineering change number, date of manufacture, and serial number are found on the cylinder assembly near the rod end port. Cylinder heads are marked with a part number and engineering change number.

Cylinder groups with engineering change numbers less than the engineering change numbers (listed in the charts) are adaptable.

Illustration 1 and Chart A identify service parts needed to change retention of the lip-seal, from bolts and washers, to snap ring retention. New cylinder heads are required for most of the cylinder groups in Chart A.

Illustration 2 and Chart B identify service parts needed to change retention of the lip-seal, from bearing mount sealant, to snap ring retention. Revised cylinder heads and new wear rings are required. (Snap ring grooves were added and the wear ring groove was narrowed).

Illustration 3 and Chart C also identify service parts needed to change retention of the lip-seal, from bearing mount sealant, to snap ring retention. Revised cylinder heads are required. (Snap ring grooves were added).
