Engine Block Provides Improved Grounding To Frame Grounding Cable{1201,1405,1406,7423}

Usage:

Challenger 75 (4CJ),
Challenger 75C (4KK),
Challenger 85C (9TK) Agricultural Tractors

Description of Change: A grounding cable assembly is used from the engine block to the frame on Challenger 75C and Challenger 85C Agricultural Tractors in order to provide improved grounding. In some cases, use of undesired alternate grounding pathways was responsible for electrical system faults. In other cases, low level voltage in the engine block caused electrolytic action and subsequent erosion in aluminum water pumps and spacer decks.

Adaptable To: The 4E-1389 Cable Assembly is effective with Challenger 75C (4KK1968) and Challenger 85C (9TK1492) Agricultural Tractors. The grounding cable is adaptable to Challenger 75 (4CJ) Agricultural Tractors, and earlier Challenger 75C (4KK1-1967) and Challenger 85C (9TK1-1491) Agricultural Tractors depending on grounding boss location:

* When the starter is grounded to the left frame rail stud [Challenger 75 (4CJ), Challenger 75C (4KK1-499, and some additional 75C (4KK500-up) and Challenger 85C (9TK) Agricultural Tractors], use a 9U-3655 Cable Assembly to connect one end to the left frame rail stud, and the other to the outside mounting bolt of the starter.
* When the starter is grounded to the stud on the saddle (later Challenger 75C and Challenger 85C Agricultural Tractors), connect one end of 4E-1389 Cable Assembly to the saddle stud, and the other end to a raised boss located on the left side of the engine block below the secondary fuel filter using a 8T-4191 (M10 x 16) Bolt and 8T-4121 Washer. Make sure that the surfaces are clean and free of paint.

NOTE: When installed, the voltage drop between the frame and the block should always be less then 0.2 Volts.
