Description of Change: The oscillation bearing cover has been improved to increase bearing support and reduce the chance of dirt entering the bearings. An additional grease fitting has also been added to improve lubrication to the bearing.

Adaptable To: The new 122-1503 Plate is effective with CS-531 (4KM100-Up), CS-533 (3BL227-Up), CP-533 (3ZL62-Up), CP-563 (1YJ552-Up, 5AJ179-Up), CS-563 (8XF1217-Up, 7GG725-Up), and CS-583 (1EL200-Up).

The new covers and added grease fitting are adaptable to previous machines. There are three procedures depending on the product information number of the machine. See the chart below to determine the correct procedure for the product identification number of the machine.

Procedure For Type 1 Machines (See Chart For Product Identification Numbers)

Machines in this product identification number range have bearing covers that are welded to the oscillation shaft end plates. These machines also have older style oscillation bearings which should be updated using Service Magazine Article "New Bearing Improves Lubrication And Simplifies Assembly For Oscillation Shaft"; May 31, 1993; Page 5.

1. Follow the procedure in the Disassembly and Assembly manual to remove the drum and yoke, and disassemble the steer pivot.

2. Use a torch or grinder to remove existing bearing cover plates (A) from rear plate (B) and front plate (C). See Illustration 1 for the location of bearing cover plates (A).

3. Modify front plate (C) and rear plate (B) as shown in Illustrations 2 and 3.

NOTE: Drill and tap lubrication passages (F) and (J) directly opposite the existing lubrication passages on the other side of the plates.

4. Update the oscillation shaft bearings by performing steps 2 through 5 of the procedure in Service Magazine Article "New Bearing Improves Lubrication And Simplifies Assembly For Oscillation Shaft"; May 31; 1993; Page 5.

5. Install 3B-8489 Fittings (6) into the new lubrication passages in plates (B) and (C).

6. Install 131-2794 Rings (4) and 131-2795 Seals (5).

NOTE: See the article "Seals Added To Oscillation Bearing Joint", in this issue, for the procedure to install the seals.

7. Install new 105-4118 Bearings (7), if necessary.

8. Install new plates (1) as shown in Illustration 4.

9. Follow the procedure in the Disassembly and Assembly manual to install the yoke and the drum.

Procedure For Type 2 Machines (See Chart For Product Identification Numbers)

Perform the same procedure as for Type 1 machines, but do not perform step 4. These machines already have the improvements described in the reference article.

Procedure For Type 3 Machines (See Chart For Product Identification Numbers)

1. Follow the procedure in the Disassembly and Assembly manual to remove the drum and yoke, and disassemble the steer pivot.
